These are really nice I'd love one in a 1" but no worries if you don't make one.
While I make some in 7/8", I think I can include some in 1", shouldn't be a problem. I'll come up with a 1" version design and test it, check the cost, ... (pity I didn't think about that before ordering the 7/8" proto to Shapeways lol).
Thanks, not a big fan either, altho I can understand that those who wants the Duke as close as the movie prop will need a plug like that (taking into account that the Duke itself is different from the movie prop on purpose). Not worth to be 3D designed/printed anyway, I guess it can easily be done with aluminium and a little brass accent on the middle.
Ok guys, update time, I received the 1st 7/8" proto parts sooner than expected ^^ Good news, it's looking good and I won't have much rework to do.
But pictures will speak for themselves, let me know what you think
Notes: close up with my big cam show a little rough surface as I didn't choose polished material (too expensive). But I can tell that when you see the brass part in real, it just look great and I won't even have to polish it further. You'll barely notice that one of the fan wings has suffered a little print issue (a bit offset, bent). I won't request Shapeways a reprint that model for such little issue on this printed part. But I'll secure the final model with another ring to avoid that kind of possible issue on the larger order.
Notes: I'll polish a bit the black part (Black Strong & Flexible material from Shapeway is a bit rough), and I'll add black matte spray paint to the finish. Again these close up photos show every tiny detail. Now the piece of "supposed to be" 7/8" PC tube was in fact a bit larger... so that ID isn't really 3/4" and the black ring OD has about 1mm difference and doesn't hold very good. I'll need to have the final 7/8" PC tube in hand before adjusting this model anyway. I won't have such issue with the 1" version since I already have the PC tube here.
Notes: notice how the bullet tip lights up, pretty cool huh? Well, I don't have a 7/8" hilt ready to test the plug, so I just added a 1" adapter to it to show these pictures. Better than nothing. Now I'm pretty pleased regarding how it looks, so for me this design is definitely a GO. Can't wait to test the 1" bigger version.
Overall I'm pretty pleased to see how "3D printed" brass (more precisely cast brass in a 3D printed mold) turns out!

blessedwrath: Finally have more time to actually do things, now that I've left my job. I'm eager to get back into saber building again. ^_^

blessedwrath: As a first step, I've actually messed with TinkerCad a little bit. I've got the first run of custom chassis discs on the way. Gotta test 'em before I can offer them for sale.
