I love lightsabers, but I also love open-source.
If an open-force alliance was formed, where amateurs and professional alike can participate, and manufacturers who publish their source and specs receive some sort of special rank, would there be an in interest?
Please comment on this thread if you'd be interested in participating in such a thing. Also, please indicate if you have or plan to manufacture and sell sabers or props, or if you fall into the "amateur" category. I'd be especially interested in hearing from the forum admins/moderators to see if this forum would be a good place to form such an alliance. Right now, the open-source lightsaber builders seems to go mostly to the arduino forums, which is not a great fit in my opinion.
I mean on disrespect to the established makers in this forum, and while I recognize that open-source products may potentially compete with their offered products, I think open-source and specs is still a very very good thing for the community as a whole. I don't want to force anybody, or steal intellectual property, I just want to recognize and reward people who live up to the ideals of the maker community.

Open-source doesn't just apply to code though. Blueprints, sewing patterns, schematics, 3d designs, cnc programs, manufacturing techniques, sources of unique parts and good-old-fashioned build logs are also "source" in this context.

I like the idea of open source, but I'm not a coder either. But I'd be inclined to try out an Arduino or Teensy based soundboard if it provided equal or better functionality for the price of a typical retail soundboard.
Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.
Except when nerf herding; then all bets are off...

ZahcStarKiller: Yeah I have to agree. I just happened to stumble across spot #1 on the orbital machining Obi TPM run and had the opportunity to purchase it. That is pretty darn close to happiness.

ZahcStarKiller: djcbooks81, My collection is getting pretty fat as well. Three graflex, luke V2, Phoenix Props Kylo, Orbital Machining Obi, and a few custom sabers. Will be looking for a Qui Gon soon, and then I'll be starting to acquire every saber variant from the OT.

ZahcStarKiller: Then the PT. Must have a good Maul and a few clan sabers. The lady of the house just approved my idea of doing a cantina in one of our huge spare bedrooms, so I am starting a Hn in Carbonite (full size) this summer and will probably be starting an R2 also.
