In two weeks, Sunday the 24th, is the second NYC Saber Legion charter meet up.
For those unaware, we're essentially an extension of an international dueling group that just had its first tournament in Missouri.
All skill levels are welcome. Most of us have either have little to no sword experience or barely a month of classes under our belts.
We are currently doing light dueling.
So as far as requirements you need some kind of basic eye protection (cheap impact glasses for like $5 from home depot are what we're currently using). Some padded gloves of some kind and preferably groin protection. Spare gear is available, not groin protection obviously lol.
And then just as important. You need a duel ready Saber. The telescoping toys are not allowed only because they'd break. You could use Force FX/Black Series type Sabers, but be warned they weren't meant for combat and might not hold up.
On top of our monthly meet ups at Central Park we now also have bi weekly meets at SCNYC! We promote them as the premier sword school for all your lightsaber (and real sword) combat needs and in return we get mat time to spar and rental gear to hand out to new comers! Keep an eye on their calendar (Under Special Events I believe) for dates and times.

Starting THIS sunday, The saber legion-New York will be partnering with Sword Class NYC (swordclassnyc.com) to bring armored Lightsaber Combat training and sparring to New York City!
The Saber Legion will be hosting regular meets on a bi-weekly basis (some exceptions apply) in the fully equipped training facility at Sword Class NYC! We will have access to training weapons if needed as well as basic sparring gear to utilize at our meets. This is an amazing opportunity for us as a group to be able to not only train in this facility on a regular basis in lightsaber combat, but also as myself and several others in the group are already doing.. train in traditional sword disciplines and apply them to our sport of Lightsaber Combat!
HUGE thank you to Raab Rashi, the owner of Sword class NYC for allowing us to do this! He is a true Jedi if there ever was one!
Sword Class NYC's training facility is located on 125th ST, About two blocks from the 4,5, and 6 train stops, about two blocks from the2 and 3 and a walk-able (10 to 15 minute) distance from the A,B, C and D (Cross town bus is available as well from that station) and is literally 15 minutes from midtown.
The first meet will be scheduled for this Sunday, August 28th and you can find a link to sign up (for $10, or free with a monthly membership to the school) below
profezzorn: hey ARKM, did you ever write a that tutorial on the toner transfer method?
Jun 23, 2017 15:50:15 GMT -5
ARKM: *waves hand* "I'm not the slacker you're looking for"
Jun 23, 2017 16:24:16 GMT -5
ARKM: Sadly no. Well, that's not entirely true. I did finish writing it but did not perform the steps and take pics of said steps.
Jun 23, 2017 16:26:30 GMT -5
ARKM: So it's like "Step 5: Using the high temperature temp, tape the paper with the design on it onto the metal part to be etched."
Jun 23, 2017 16:26:53 GMT -5
ARKM: ... but there's no Pic 4.
Jun 23, 2017 16:27:10 GMT -5
profezzorn: from other things I've read it's just PNP blue with some heat and pressure applied, right?
Jun 23, 2017 16:37:26 GMT -5
ARKM: Some use that. I could not get successful results with it but others have.
Jun 23, 2017 16:47:16 GMT -5
profezzorn: so what do you use?
Jun 23, 2017 16:47:36 GMT -5
ARKM: I personally use glossy magazine pages. I just rip a page out of a magazine and put it in the printer. The pages have to be the right thickness for the printer though. Too thin and they rip in the printer.
