I can't imagine the pain and stress of dealing with a young three year old (terminal)son that has had many many surgeries to deal with his 22 deformities only to suffer from online bullying. I have two young sons and I can't imagine having to go through what this dad is going through.
From watching the video it's obvious by the father and son Star Wars t-shirts that they're big SW fans.
My proposal. If we can get enough donations, I'd like to have one of our smiths build this family an honorary IRA saber. Maybe a TFA saber if we can score a Romans. I have some coming early January if someone has one we can use now I will repay them once I receive mine. If we can get enough donations to cover the parts, I will personally fly halfway across the country and hand deliver our saber in my TK armor. I will also reach out to the local 501st and see how many troopers we can get to join in.
My thought of a saber vs a simple donation for medical bills was that a saber would be a constant reminder that a group of strangers cares for them. It's meant to be an encouragment.
There is so much pain in the world and this poor family has suffered a lot. How encouraging would it be for them if their street was inundated with Stormtroopers, Vader, Fett, etc etc and then given a custom saber as a lasting reminder that people care about them.
I will start by offering up a Romans hilt. (If we can find one)
I'd like to move on this quick and do it before Christmas if we can.

I'd like to help if I can. I'm experienced enough that I can wire up any Plecter board and led combo, I would be happy to wire and assemble the saber for no charge whatsoever.
Of course I could help in other ways as well. I can take a look at the parts I have lying around and see what I could donate to the cause.
Additionally, if you're thinking TFA, I can contact The Graflex Shop. We have been chatting and it sounds like they will be shipping out their replicas before Christmas. I have one on order that I could trade for a Romans or another TGS when it comes in.
This is a wonderful gesture and I would love to be a part of it.
Obviously I can donate a custom bag.
I can also donate funds. $10 or $20 (from 10 or people) ..or any combination that would yield a few hundred dollars, would cover all the common parts for any build. Switches, LEDS, speakers, chassis and so on.
Do you have an account set up that can be used for this?
I have an rB/G/B tri-cree LED and every kind of LED/heat sink module there is if needed. If you can't get a Romans or TGS, I also have a new Graflex 2.0. I also have a G.O.T.H. 3Designs Knight Chassis for the the Graflex 2.0 (Nano Biscotte version) on order from Shapeways but they haven't shipped it yet.
I'm in. I have a completed Lethal Crystal Frog Apprentice (Yoda) he can have. Much better than a Graflex for padawans since it's only six inches long. I built it over the summer and it's brand new with a CF8, extra batteries, charger and blade. Comes in a nice box with a stand included. I've got a lot on my plate this weekend so I can't ship in until Tuesday. Luke, you have my email address so feel free to drop me a line to work out the details and I'll send you my phone number.

We can really do anything. The saber was not really meant to be a toy for young 3 yr old Grayson. My original idea was just to be a huge encouragement to this family and leave them a lasting token. I've been to children's hospitals with the Rebel Legion. There's nothing better than watching faces light up when we walk in or taking pictures with the kids so they can remember our visit. That was my line of thinking.
@ Jcru- hold off on the shipping until we know if this is really going to happen and what we need.
@ scarecrow pm I coming.
@ ARKM - noted. I like that idea best. It makes the overall build and install easier. Thanks man.
This is a go. The mom, Jenny, just exited me. She's is really excited about what we want to do. She's says her husband and boys are HUGE Star Wars fans and they watch the movies all the time.

I have sent an email to little Grayson's mom. The story when national so I'm not even sure she will see my email any time soon. I also have a request in with the 501st.
I really like the idea of the Frog saber. We could play it off "size matters not." It would also solve a lot of logistical issues with shipping parts and an install etc. I think the Yoda saber might be very appropriate in this case.
I told you to keep that between us. I have an avatar to live up to. Quick question: Anybody have a Yoda font with vocals? There used to be one on Saberfont.com but I don't thinks it's available anymore. If anybody has one, please let me know how to buy it so I can load it up before shipping. Thanks.

We need link or blako to quick whip up a boot with
Judge me by my size do you? size maters not
This is a go guys. The mom, Jenny, just texted me and is really excited and in shock over what we want to do. She said her husband and sons are HUGE Star Wars fans and watch the movies all the time. I let her in on some of the basics just to make sure we weren't doing anything they wouldn't like or possibly upset Grayson. The rest of the family will be in the dark.

Ok this is blowing up more than I imagined. Grayson's mom is floored. Love the yoda idea with the posted Yoda phrases about size matters not. Everything is progressing very quickly and perfectly.
Scarecrow has graciously offered up his Yoda Frog hilt and do to logistics and the mom being thrilled over it I think it's clearly the best choice. I've spoken with scarecrow and so this can be a combined effort we will post PayPal info for donations. All donations can be posted here or pm'd to me but for transparency I will make sure that we stay below the cost of the saber. Any donations above the cost will be given to the family. They do have loads of medical bills and had to short sale their home.
You guys rock. I'm glad we can use our skills and love of Star Wars to encourage this struggling family. I will be sure to take loads of pics to share.
We don't have a date set yet. We're hoping for the week of Rogue One.

I haven't read all of the post here but are we trying to get the Father a saber too? If so I have most items in stock to make a saber for him. I even have a Graflex 2.0 kit. Just let me know if you want to try to do that and I will get started building it.
profezzorn: hey ARKM, did you ever write a that tutorial on the toner transfer method?
Jun 23, 2017 15:50:15 GMT -5
ARKM: *waves hand* "I'm not the slacker you're looking for"
Jun 23, 2017 16:24:16 GMT -5
ARKM: Sadly no. Well, that's not entirely true. I did finish writing it but did not perform the steps and take pics of said steps.
Jun 23, 2017 16:26:30 GMT -5
ARKM: So it's like "Step 5: Using the high temperature temp, tape the paper with the design on it onto the metal part to be etched."
Jun 23, 2017 16:26:53 GMT -5
ARKM: ... but there's no Pic 4.
Jun 23, 2017 16:27:10 GMT -5
profezzorn: from other things I've read it's just PNP blue with some heat and pressure applied, right?
Jun 23, 2017 16:37:26 GMT -5
ARKM: Some use that. I could not get successful results with it but others have.
Jun 23, 2017 16:47:16 GMT -5
profezzorn: so what do you use?
Jun 23, 2017 16:47:36 GMT -5
ARKM: I personally use glossy magazine pages. I just rip a page out of a magazine and put it in the printer. The pages have to be the right thickness for the printer though. Too thin and they rip in the printer.
