The IRA domain is set to expire 10/31. You will have three available domains immediately then two moving on after we let the IRA domain expire in October. I have one final item to address tonight at midnight. Once that's completed we will begin the transition. It should be pretty seamless. When you log in tomorrow you should see a whole new site with information on our 2 new web domains.
If you guys are logged in shortly after midnight tonight you will see the announcement in this thread with our new name. The changes will take place sometime on the 11th. I'll make the changes late morning to noonish.
I don't like all these changes. They make me nervous. Therefore I'm going to start a splinter group. We will call ourselves "The New Imperial Order". Our mission? To keep everything the way it was. NO CHANGES!!! Unless one of our member's wives say so. Then changes will HAVE to be made.

We aren't always prepared for change nor even like it. Sometimes FORCES outside of our control require such changes. Many times the change FORCED upon us is a blessing in disguise and actually makes us greater.
It's been no secret that we've had issues with our initials, IRA, being confused with a very well known other IRA. This has caused payments to be flagged, halted or frozen and has added a level of frustration for our vendors as they've waited to get paid for their services. Despite our notice to not use our initials in PayPal transactions, the problem persists. Another issue comes with the sale of LFL to Disney. We needed to remove the Imperial Cog and Rebel Crest to avoid any Imperial entanglements or cease and desist orders like NY Jedi experienced last year. We also felt that over time we've evolved away from our original name. Or possibly that our original name was just not a good fit for us.
Over the last few months the IRA staff has spent many hours discussing what our best course of action would be. Our conclusion was that it was time for a change. Many of you have told me over the years just how different we are from other online forums. How we buck certain trends. As a staff we felt it was appropriate to more align our name with our mission and who we are. We felt that we didn't really align with the Imperial Forces. It was our feeling that we better fit in with our heroes. We're rebels.

When I helped Corey/Amptrooper create the IRA, it was our goal to make a hobby site for the members. This was always your site and about you. We wanted a site where you felt at home. We wanted a site where everyone would be treated equally and fairly. We never remotely considered charging our members fees for their sales whether it be our trusted sabersmiths or the new guy that just logged on today.
We're now giving you a chance to give back to the IRA. We're giving you each an opportunity to become more involved in keeping this site alive. Even though proboards is a free service the IRA does incur several hundred dollars in fees each year. This year we will be paying for a new web domain as well as keeping our old ImperialRoyalArms.com domain active via a redirect in order to give our members time to transition to our new domain. Proboards also charges once we reach a certain data limit and also for plugins like our chatbox.
When I purchased the IRA from Corey I had no intention of fees or even making a profit off the IRA. That's just not who we are. It would be nice to at least have our costs covered without adding more ads than we already have. Depending on our member funding, we might be able to eliminate those ads entirely from the upper banner.
We aren't requiring anyone to donate nor do we expect anyone to donate more than they can afford. Family and real life ALWAYS need to come first.
In the coming wweks we will provide a link that will allow you all to see our expenses, our PayPal statement and a list of what we will call our "sponsor members". Sponsor members will receive no perks or special treatment. All sponsor members that donate $15 or more will receive the first ever IRA challenge coin bearing our new name and logo. Challenge coins will hopefully be offered on May the Fourth. If the coin drive is successful we will make it a yearly fundraiser with each coin bearing the current year engraved on the back.
Donations can be made to our new PayPal account @ TheRebelArmory@gmail.com. Please include your screen name in your PayPal transaction so we can track and thank our sponsors. Although we'll never divulge who gave what and how much, we will publicly recognize our sponsors in our account thread. There are many ways we could use to pay for the site costs. Ads, charging selling fees or even a member fee would all be ways we could defray our costs. Like I stated earlier, I just don't feel any of those are the spirit of the IRA. We've always been about teamwork and treating each other fairly as equals. It only makes sense that we open this up to an open based sponsorship program. This mode of funding captures the vision of the IRA more than any other.
Ok get on with the good stuff. "Quit the chatter Red Five." What's our name?
The staff spent a lot of time deciding if we needed a new name and what that new name should be. We didn't enter this discussion lightly. We did our best to capture the essence of our forum while trying to keep it somewhat familiar to us all. As I stated earlier, we're Rebels. We don't just offer sabers, so we avoided the use of the word saber. Our main offering here is sabers, blasters and items to complement our weapons. We're an Armory.
I'd like to introduce you all to our new name.
The Rebel Armory or TRA
Our new domain, TheRebelArmory.com will become active sometime tomorrow. You'll also be able to use our old web address ImperialRoyalArms.com until October 31st when we let that domain expire. You'll want to be sure to save our new web address into your browser as we roll out our new name tomorrow.
As we discussed our new name, we felt that it would better serve us to change the name of our Consortium as well.
Consortium is defined below.
noun 1. 1. an association, typically of several business companies. 2. synonyms: 3. association, alliance, coalition, union, league, guild, syndicate, federation, confederation, confederacy, conglomerate, cooperative, combine, partnership, affiliation, organization
As appropriate as the Consortium is for our association of businesses, we couldn't help but be drawn to one of the listed synonyms. "ALLIANCE" Our Consortium should not nor has it ever been just an association. It's more of an alliance. Our new name should be a constant reminder to the vendors in it that they're part of a team that should always strive to work together.
The Consortium will now be named "The Alliance." Our Armory, at least for now, will remain as "The Armory."
We put a lot of thought into our rebranding and hope you're as EXCITED as we are by the changes.
Thank you all for making this site what it is. It's hard to believe we're now on our way to 3000 members and have daily stats that rival sites that have been around many many years before we were created. I owe you all a huge thank you for making this site what it is. For getting along as well as you do and for making my job and that of our mods super easy. You guys make us so bored with next to nothing to mod that we just sit around thinking up ways to annoy ARKM.
Thank you to the members of TRA - The Rebel Armory.
