Procrastination no more I should. Before TFA, I scored a Park Graflex, Yoda chassis, CF card like two years ago and I should finally get my first build going.
I have decided to keep the Park as a Static (which I believe is V1) and am debating either the TGS or JQ stainless as my base. I am more of an idealized saber guy so the graflex doesn't need to be a exact replica (maybe 98%?). I like stainless steel personally but I am worry about ease of build and fitting for Yoda chassis with TGS blade holder. I am thinking a hybrid with ANH glass eye, bubble strip plus TFA bottom. Any input helping me to decide will be much appreciated. Thanks😀
My TGS hasn't arrived yet so I can't comment on that, but by all accounts that is the closest replica you will get in terms of accuracy (from others reviews). As for the JQ stainless steel Graflex, I have one and love it. Any of the vintage-compatible blade holders (TGS, KR, SH etc.) should fit, as my KR blade holder fits perfectly so you shouldn't have any issues with a TGS one. Yoda chassis should also fit fine due to it working with the vintage BH dimensions.
The only thing I will say is that as the JQ is stainless steel, the colour of the metal doesn't quite match other replica parts if you were going to fit a different glass etc. On the flip side, the finish on it is brilliant and it's still very accurate. I don't think you would regret your decision if you went for either. The JQ is more expensive but is more build friendly as the kits come with a SF clamp card, grips etc. already.
I would agree with vain mostly except if you spent the money for a yoda chassis I would want it in the most accurate hilt I could find which is either a vintage or TGS. The JQ looks wonderful and limits chasing of certain parts since it comes with some but the KR blade holder is the way to go for sure.
For the JQ I got the TFA pro kit, whilst for the TGS I have ordered the stamped clamp and bottom (ordered after 8th Jan so still waiting). When I have the latter in hand I will take some comparison photos (I do have a couple of 2.0s laying around at the moment if you want a comparison to those).
As for why the SS doesn't draw more interest, for Graflex builds the only thing most people care about is accuracy and the TGS gives them that. It's a timing thing as they both came out at a similar time. The worth of a decent SS saber is also hard to judge from pictures as it's the feel, weight and look in person that makes the difference. SS is much harder to work with than aluminium (and heavier, so no good for duelling really), so most companies won't use it for sabers, even though the finish on a good SS is worth it (imo).
I don't think you should regret getting a TGS at all, but if you ever have the money the JQ is worth it.
Rogue Five: Hi Bentley! Where y'all been?

Rogue Five: Sandpeople-Cool! I don't have any of the Noble Collection swords but I have a few of the United Cutlery ones and they are superb replicas as they're modeled directly from the original props. If you're interested in buying another one, I highly recommend

Rogue Five: Anduril. I have one and it is gorgeous and sturdily made. I believe it is a full tang sword so you could swing it around without it flying apart. Trust me, you'll feel like the King of Gondor holding this thing lol.

ARKM: "full tang United Cutlery" is an oxymoron.

ARKM: That does not mean that they aren't nice for hanging on the wall though. I have a UC Kurgan sword. I like it.

Rogue Five: Yeah I wouldn't go looking for a fight with any wall hanger swords lol. I think Anduril and Strider's Ranger sword are the only full tang swords in the LOTR line.

Rogue Five: I looked into getting a functional Anduril from a custom swordsmith but no one I found made a screen accurate one.

Rogue Five: That Kurgan one is nice. Sword afficianados like to dump on it because it has a two piece blade and they're right but who cares! It looks bad a**
